Tips For Getting Ready For A Big Move When You Have Small Kids

Posted on

If you and your family are going to be relocating to a new home in the near future, you will want to do everything you can in order to be as ready as possible. While you might be able to adjust to last minute plans and deal with a lot of work with ease, it is not always as easy for small children. This is why you will want to take a few moments to review the following things you can do to make the entire move a little easier on them.

Let Them Help

Too many people make a mistake of not allowing their small children help with the process of packing. This can make them feel excluded and cause them to be frustrated. To help them to feel that they have a big part in the move, you can supply them with a few boxes that they can use for their own personal belongings. As long as they are packing their clothing, stuffed animals, or random toys, you should not have to worry about them breaking anything. Also, while they do that, you will find yourself having a little uninterrupted free time to work on packing up some of the other things in the house.

Pack A Special Box For Each Kid

It can take a little while to unpack all of the boxes once you have arrived at the new house. This is why you will want to set aside a box, one for each child, and clearly mark it with the names of the children. In these boxes, you will want to pack a couple of outfits and night clothes, shoes, and some special toys and stuffed animals. Move these boxes to the new house first, if it is within driving distance, or haul them in your personal vehicle instead of the moving truck. This will ensure that those boxes do not get mixed up with everything else. By having these boxes in close reach, your children will be able to have everything they need as you spend a few day in the home trying to find everything else.

Find A Babysitter

When you need to spend hours concentrating on organizing and packing up the house, you might want to hire a babysitter to watch the kids for you. If you want, the babysitter can come to your house to sit with them there, even though you will be off and busy in another part of the house. Once it comes time to pack up the moving truck, you might want the babysitter to take the kids to their house. This is because things can get a little hectic with everyone going back and forth from the house to the moving truck. You don't want your children to become injured, upset, or lost.

As you can see, with the previously mentioned tips in mind, you and your family will be able to make your long distance move without having to go through too much hassle.
